May 23 The Agape Love of the Father in Heaven
Daily Devotional August 11, 2020 The Unconditional – Agape Love of Our Creator
Today’s devotional centers around the Agape (unconditional) love Jesus and His Father shows us through His Holy Spirit; not only in the big details of our life, but the little details of our lives as well. One thing I want to point out is that our feelings can be deceiving. Our feelings change like the wind depending on our circumstances in life. Knowing this, we don’t have to waiver in our belief of whether God still loves us. Why? Because He paid the ultimate price for us to be reconciled to us spiritually. It was mankind’s spiritual connection with God that was broken in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve; who chose to rebel against God’s perfect plan for them.
The plan of reconciliation of mankind back to our Creator, is through the plan He had of sending His Son to pay the price that we could never pay for our sinful nature and our sins that hold us in bondage. We could not stop wanting to sin until the love and grace of Jesus provided the power through shedding His blood on the cross we deserved. Without His forgiveness and love, our future is a life of eternity in hell.
Question & Answers:
1) How do we know whether or not we are saved? We know by the transformation that comes upon us in our hearts when we acknowledge our sinfulness to God. and turn to Christ to break the bondage of sin we are under.
Scripture: Romans 6: 6 Convinced of Salvation
We know (intellectually) that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ, so that sin lost its power in our lives. God tells us in His Word when we accept what Christ has done for us on the cross; we are no longer slaves to sin.
2) Does the former passage mean we will never sin again? No. We still have a flesh that is prone to sin; so at times we will want what we want. For if we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. Each battle with temptation to sin is won or lost depending how surrendered we are to the control of the Holy Spirit of God.
3) What must a Christian (follower of Christ) do when they sin? Realize that God offers continual, ongoing grace whenever we agree with Him about our sin and ask for His cleansing.
Scripture: Psalm 51 Prayer of Repentance
Have mercy on me O God, according to Your lovingkindness, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies . . . Wash me and I will be whiter than snow, make me hear joy and gladness . . . Restore me to the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. . . my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. . . .my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
